In 2017, WDY Construction undertook a sizeable renovation project at Hyford House in Bideford, North Devon. As quite a dated property, it required significant modernisation. This all started with a major transformation to the existing kitchen layout. The original side door was replaced with a large sliding bifold door, leading seamlessly to a newly constructed patio area in the garden.
To enhance the property’s grandeur, the entrance hall was significantly upgraded. The original front door was replaced with a large, decorative set, leading to a marble-clad entrance hall. The standard staircase was replaced with an impressive oak and white-panelled design, accentuated by a crystal glass chandelier, setting the scene for the rest of the home. The interior decor was carefully selected to maintain this grand, traditional aesthetic, complementing the original coving and high ceilings.
Cast-iron radiators sourced from Castrad’s in Chelsea were installed, adding to the classic appeal. The old fireplace was replaced with a marble fire surround and a Chesney stove, ensuring the new design was in keeping with the house’s historic character. Custom-designed Victorian-style window surrounds were created on-site, further adding to the home’s charm and celebrating its history.
Outside, the overgrown garden was transformed. A retaining wall was built to create a large, level patio area and an expansive lawn, providing a spacious outdoor area befitting a property of this size.
Delivered on time and within budget, the Hyford House project exemplifies WDY Construction’s dedication to quality and attention to detail, and demonstrates our commitment to excellence.
